Drug intelligence / Profile preview
4-[18F]fluoro-L-glutamine (also known as [18F]FGln) is an investigational fluorine-18 labeled L-glutamine analog developed as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. It targets the altered glutamine metabolism (glutaminolysis) that is characteristic of many aggressive cancers, such as gliomas, breast cancer, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, as well as other conditions like pulmonary arterial hypertension. The tracer is transported into cells primarily via the alanine-serine-cysteine transporter 2 (ASCT2/SLC1A5) and System L transporters, reflecting intracellular glutamine pool size and transport activity. It was initially developed by Bayer and the University of Pennsylvania, and is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for various malignancies and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
